Born in Chicago, raised in Mexico City from the age of 9, Barbara Ransom is totally bicultural Her U.S. acting career began with a recurring role on the original Peyton Place.. Her voice has been heard in Spanish as Princess Leia in The Return of the Jedi, and as Gussie Mouseheimer in An American Tail, as well as in countless commercials.. She enjoyed a multifaceted career in Mexico: performing in musical theater, films and television, including a lengthy stint as the Goldie Hawn counterpart on the Mexican version of Laugh In. While in Mexico, she appeared in Wolper Prods., I Will Fight No More Forever, starring James Whitmore and Interval, starring Merle Oberon. Since 1980 in the US, she’s been an independent writer, creative consultant, producer and director on a myriad of Spanish-language commercials for clients such as Safeway Stores (5 years) Mervyn’s (7 years), Ross Stores (15 years), Amtrak, Smart & Final, Sizzler, Johnson & Johnson, Kerns/Libby’s, Isuzu, Winston Tires, Boost Mobile, Disney to name a few in addition to serving as Spanish dialect coach for dozens of actors, including Edward James Olmos and Vicky Carr. She has written for the Spanish-language TV Sitcom “Sólo en América” and “Viva Vegas” for Telemundo Network, all the while continuing to perform in voice-overs for commercials and films. Her credits also include writing original Spanish and English lyrics for Grammy Award-winning albums: “Clare Fischer & Salsa Picante Present 2+2” and “Free Fall"as well as for Disney Live Entertainment and commercial jingles.
