Laura Gómez is best known for transforming herself into Blanca Flores, a cunning and disheveled inmate on the smash Netflix hit series "Orange is the New Black." Other projects include "Law & Order SVU" (NBC), "Show Me A Hero" (HBO) created by David Simon, the films "Exposed," opposite Keanu Reeves and Ana DeArmas, and "Sambá" (Tribeca Film Festival). Raised in Santo Domingo, she moved to New York City in 2001 to study acting professionally, eventually becoming a member of Spanish Repertory Theater, where she has participated in critically acclaimed plays, like Doña Flor and her Two Husbands and The House of the Spirits. In 2011, Gómez was a recipient of the IX Screenwriting Developing Grant from the Carolina Foundation in Spain. An aspiring filmmaker, Gómez has studied film courses at the prestigious New York University and screenwriting at the Jacob Krueger Studio and has directed several short films including To Kill a Roach -winner of the NYU Fall 2012 Technisphere Award for Outstanding Achievement- Hallelujah, which she wrote and stars in, and The Iron Warehouse, written by playwright and Juilliard alumni, Hilary Bettis. Gómez is also an established voiceover actor, having worked as Spanish announcer for the brands CoverGirl and Suave Professionals, and has lent her voice for the audiobooks "Of How the García Girls Lost Their Accent" by Julia Alvarez and "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao," by Junot Díaz. She is the creator, producer and host of Baraja Eso Podcast and was recently praised by El País journal in Spain for her work as Spanish narrator of the 8-part non-fiction podcast "Corinna and the King." As an actress her most recent work is in the play "The Baby Monitor" at Santa Fe Playhouse, and the films "Upon Entry" (Barcelona) -winner of the Critics Choice Award at the Tallinn Film Festival, with a North American premiere at SXSW- and the awaited "The Kitchen" (Mexico) starring Rooney Mara and directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios. Coming is the animated film "The Encounter" (US).
